Romanian paedophile suspect is being defended (13-04-2005)
By Ola Hansson
The yoga instructor that was caught the othe week after being internationally wanted for sex crimes, is now being investigated in connection with an eventual extradition to Romania. Friends and students of the man claimed at a press conference in Malmö on Wednesday that the accusations are a result of the criticism the man has raised against Romanian authorities. ‘It would be a disaster to extradite him, he would never have a fair trial in Romania, `said Ulla Sandbak, former member of the European Parliament for the Danish June Movement.
Girl was apparently forced to lie
Participants at the press conference included friends and yoga students of the man. They claim the sex crime accusations have been made on false grounds. A 16-year old girl is supposed to have been forced to state that she had a sexual connection to the man, a relationship that is only illegal in Romania because of the girl’s status as a student. ’I have nothing to say about this since I am not the one investigating the crime,’ says chamber prosecutor Ronny Johnsson at the international prosecutors’ office in Malmö.
His investigation is instead dealing with eventual obstacles for an extradition.
A request for extradition had not arrived at the Ministry of Justice on Wednesday. The man was caught last week. Romania has 40 days to give such a request.
